Commercial Underwriting Professional

Passionate about commercial underwriting, risk management, and the technologies shaping the future of insurance.

Professional Profile

The experiences, values, and curiosity that shape my approach to commercial insurance.

I discovered early in my career that what I enjoy most isn’t simply processing information—it’s understanding it. Commercial insurance appealed to me because every account tells a different story, and every underwriting decision requires balancing data, judgment, communication, and risk.

Over the past several years, I’ve built my experience in the excess and surplus marketplace, supporting underwriters on complex commercial casualty accounts while developing a strong appreciation for the relationships that exist between brokers, carriers, and insureds. I enjoy the analytical side of underwriting, but equally important to me is the ability to communicate clearly, collaborate effectively, and continuously improve processes.

My academic background in communications has shaped how I approach my work. I believe technical knowledge becomes significantly more valuable when it can be explained clearly, whether that’s working with brokers, supporting underwriters, or helping internal teams solve problems together.

One characteristic that has consistently shaped my career is curiosity. I enjoy understanding not only how underwriting decisions are made, but why they are made. That mindset has led me to continually expand my knowledge of commercial insurance, emerging technologies, and the evolving role of artificial intelligence within the industry. I believe the future of underwriting will belong to professionals who combine sound judgment with a willingness to embrace new tools and continuously learn.

As I continue building my career, my long-term goal is to deepen my expertise in risk management while contributing to organizations that value thoughtful analysis, collaboration, and continuous learning.

Experience

Building a foundation in commercial underwriting through analytical support, broker relationships, and risk evaluation.

Over the past three years, I’ve developed experience supporting commercial underwriters in the excess and surplus insurance market, working with complex commercial risks across a variety of industries. My responsibilities have included coordinating submissions, preparing underwriting files, reviewing documentation, communicating with retail brokers, and helping underwriters move accounts efficiently from submission through binding.

Working in wholesale insurance strengthened my understanding of how brokers, carriers, and clients interact throughout the underwriting process. It also reinforced the importance of organization, accuracy, responsiveness, and relationship management when operating in a fast-paced production environment.

Throughout my career, I’ve consistently sought opportunities to expand beyond administrative responsibilities by learning the reasoning behind underwriting decisions, studying coverage structures, and gaining a deeper understanding of commercial casualty risks. That curiosity has allowed me to contribute more effectively while continuing to develop professionally.

Today, my goal is to continue growing into a full underwriting role where I can combine technical analysis, sound judgment, and strong communication skills to help organizations make informed risk decisions.
